Galle secures the double


Former Test captain Hashan Tillakaratne finished off his stint as the Head Coach of Galle Provincial team with flying colours as the team completed the grand double by winning the First Class and one-day tournaments.

Galle had secured the four day tournament championship in April and yesterday beat Colombo by 75 runs to secure the one-day title.

Captain Upul Tharanga’s magnificent 124 helped Galle to a total of 320 for seven in 50 overs and Colombo were bowled out for 245 runs in 44.2 overs.

Tharanga faced 122 deliveries for his 124 and hit 12 fours and three sixes.

Tharanga added 125 runs for the second wicket with young Sadeera Samarawickrama, who made 62 off 71 deliveries.

Lakshan Sandakan picked up four wickets.

Shehan Jayasuriya made the only half-century of Colombo’s innings.
