Weeratunga, Palpita appeal fixed for support on Nov. 26

The Court of Appeal yesterday fixed for support on November 26, the application of appeal filed by Lalith Weeratunga, the Secretary to the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Anusha Palpita, the former Chairman of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission. They had appealed against a Colombo High Court order which sentenced them to three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 50 million each, for having abused Public Funds up to Rs. 600 million for the purchase of ‘Sil Redi’ in the run up to the last Presidential poll of January 8, 2015.


Both convicts were granted bail by the Colombo High Court. They had appealed to set aside the conviction against them.


Counsel Kanchana Ratwatte, appeared for the accused appellant, Weeratunga and Palpita.
