Debutant Rajitha stuns Sri Lanka

Kasun Rajitha put Sri Lanka in the box seat with a stunning spell of nine overs where he took two wickets for 15 runs after West Indies began their chase of 296 runs to win the match here at Gros Islet’s Darren Sammy Stadium in the West Indies.

After losing Kieran Powell and Devon Smith in the third over of their innings, both against Rajitha, West Indies were eight for two facing big trouble.

Adding to their woes, Shai Hope had to retire after he suffered a blow on his ribs striking the ball from express bowler Lahiru Kumara.

After adding 30 runs for the third wicket, Roston Chase was sent back by Suranga Lakmal for 13 clean-bowling him as Shane Dowrich, the not out batsman went for lunch with the Windies on 55 for three, still needing 241to win.

Very few crowd attended also on Monday, most of them being school children of a nearby secondary school.

Skies were cloudy hinting rain intermittently in the afternoon. Scattered showers had been a common trait throughout the match.

Sri Lanka lost their two remaining wickets within ten minutes Monday morning for a total of 342 as Shanon Gabriel took eight for 62, a match-bag of 13 wickets for 121.

Slightly uneven bounce and overcast conditions gave Lankan bowlers clear indication of an advantage as chasing nearly 300 runs in the venue looked an arduous task.
