The Health Sector Trade Union Alliance (HSTUA) has urged the government to consider paying public servants of the 18 flood affected areas compensation in Rs 50,000 as was being paid to employees of the private sector and residents of the affected areas.

Over 1.3 million people were affected and 26,000 houses were destroyed during the recent floods, HSTUA President Saman Ratnapriya said. Compensation paid to the State sector employees would be deducted in three installments while it was an ex-gratia payment for the private sector employees and residents of the affected areas.

He said that it was very unfair by the Government to treat those affected in different ways.
