Paranthan Chemicals promotes nation-wide chemical safety


Paranthan Chemicals Company Limited together with the Institute of Chemistry of Ceylon jointly conducted a workshop with the theme "Safe handling of Chemicals", at the Institute of Chemistry of Ceylon, Rajagiriya, recently.

The interesting feature of this seminar being organized jointly by the Sri Lanka’s two prestigious Chemical institutions namely Institute of Chemistry of Ceylon which is a reputed institute for chemistry education and research and Paranthan Chemical Company Limited, a highly respected institution for manufacturing and marketing of chemicals and also the pioneer and a leader in the National chemical industry. Paranthan Chemicals Company Limited is a fully State-owned and self-financing institution functioning under the purview of Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

The workshop created a common platform bringing together various stakeholders associated with chemical application and safety and thereby promoting the integrated approach to chemical safety and protection. It was also highlighted the necessity for the National Policy of Chemical Safety, emphasized the need for strengthening national wide chemical emergency response capacities as well as improving the safety awareness, thereby meeting the future chemical safety and security challenges.

Representatives from the selected national authorities namely National Disaster Management Centre, National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Sri Lanka Police- Special Task Force CBRN Response Team and representatives from other relevant authorities and the whole staffs of Paranthan Chemicals participated.
