Dhananjaya, Sooriyabandara guide SL U19s to first win

Skipper Nipun Dhananjaya struck an unbeaten 92 and put on a partnership of 92 runs with Pasinsu Sooriyabandara to lead Sri Lanka Under 19 to a notable five wicket victory over their Indian counterparts in the second Youth ODI played at the SSC ground on Thursday.

Chasing a modest target of 194 runs to win the hosts lost three wickets for 88 runs but Dananjaya kept his cool to guide the side to their first victoy of the series.

The first victory came after three consecutive defeats, two in Youth Tests and the other in the first Youth ODI.

Dhananjaya scored just seven fours in his knock (112) and Sooriyabandara’s 52 included five fours. The duo added 92 for the fourth wicket and backed the impressive performances of the bowlers who contained the strong batting line up to 193 runs.

Shashika Dulshan with three wickets was the pick of the bowlers.
