The Under-17 cricket teams of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia and St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa had to bear the brunt of an administrative faux pas from the part of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) on the eve of the Inter School Under-17 Division I cricket tournament semi-final clash on Wednesday.

The two teams were all ready to meet in the semi-final at the Surrey Village ground, Maggona on Thursday but had to suddenly reverse their plans when they were informed by the SLSCA of a sudden cancellation late Wednesday night.

The officials of the two schools complained that the team managements had to go through difficulties when the SLSCA officials rang them late night to inform the cancellation.

It is learnt that the SLSCA had failed to make a payment to the Surrey Village ground which is under the supervision of Sri Lanka Cricket.

"We could not inform all team members late in the night about the cancellation. The boys came early in the morning today (6) to go for the match," said Dinesh Kumarasinghe, the Head Coach of the S. Thomas’ team.

Frank Cooray the veteran Master-in-Charge of cricket at St. Sebastian’s expressed his disappointment at the way things are handle at the SLSCA. He is a former secretary of the SLSCA.

When The Island contacted Dilshan de Silva the incumbent secretary of the SLSCA he said that the booking of the ground had been the responsibility of the treasurer, Nihal Fernando.
