Gurukula showcase strength in the bowling armoury

Under-19 Cricket

Gurukula showcased the strength in their pace attack and the spin department in their first outing of the Under-19 Division I cricket season when they restricted Lumbini to 103 runs to record a first innings victory at Colts Ground on Tuesday.

New ball partners Likshan Sasanga and left armer Praveen Nimesh shared six wickets between them and skipper Sachintha Chamith picked up three wickets with his left-arm spin to skittle out Lumbini for 103 runs.

Former Richmond college paceman Ravishka Wijesiri’s 40 runs was the highest score in Lumbini innings.

However despite having a huge first innings lead Gurukula did not enforce the follow on and Rashmika Mewan made the most of the decision as he scored his second half century of the match for them to post 228 for seven wickets at close.

Gurukula 298 all out in 78.1 overs (Praveen Nimesh 65, Rashmika Mewan 54, Kemira Nayanatharu 53, Sasitha Ashan 28, Shanaka Ishara 27; Sandunil Sankalpa 3/58, Ravishka Wijesiri 3/78) and 228 for 7 in 60 overs (Praveen Nimesh 25, Dilip Chamara 45, Rashmika Mewan 51, Nuwan Chanaka 33, Sithija Chamod 30n.o., Sasitha Ashan 22n.o.; Ravishka Wijesiri 2/88, Nethul Rajapaksa 3/08)
