Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday put off a case filed against the former General Manager of the CWE Wimal Perera for Dec. 16 as the 11th witness in the case and former unity government minister Ravi Karunanayake failed to appear before court.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has sued Perera for misappropriation of funds to the tune of several millions during the period 2001-2002 for importing rice for the CWE.

Karunanayake’s Counsel informed the court that his client was not in a position to appear before court as he had to attend a meeting of the party leaders.

CIABOC informed court that summons issued by the court to Karunanayake had been handed over and the summons issued to fourth witness in the case Lal Wickramatunge could not be handed over as the latter’s address could not be found.
