Movement of photojournalists restricted

WPC members watching porn:

By Chaminda Silva

Following wide publicity given to pictures of some Western Provincial Councillors watching porn on their official computers during the recent presentation of the council budget, journalists’ movements in the public gallery were restricted yesterday.

When the budget debate commenced, chaired by Sunil Wijeratne, councillors Gunasiri Jayanath, Kerthi Kariyawasam and Sumith Wijemuni denied having watched pornography while the Chief Minister Isura Devapriya was presenting the council budget.

They alleged that photographs of councillors who were accused of watching pornography had sent to the media by some fellow councillors via their smart phones.

Chairman Sunil Wijeratne said he would not impose restrictions on the media. However boards had been placed on the gallery with instructions for the media personnel to confine themselves to the designated area.

During the budget debate, two UPFA members Keerthi Kariyawasam and Nauser Fauzie crossed over to the Oposition benches.
