President’s new secretary pleads not guilty

The indictment against Janaka Ranawaka the former Mayor of Kotte was read out to him yesterday in the High Court of Colombo.

He has been indicted with undue access to the computer of the then Deputy Mayor. The accused is on bail at present.

Yesterday, he pleaded not guilty to the allegation against him. Time was given to the complainant to inspect the computer records. The next calling date was fixed for February 28, 2019.

The alleged offence was committed on July 13, 2013. Nalin Laduwahetty, PC appeared for Ranawaka and Dileepa Peiris, Deputy Solicitor General for the Attorney General.

The bench comprised Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Tilakaratne.

Ranawaka was recently appointed private secretary to President Maithripala Sirisena.
