'Siddhalepa products capturing retailer shelves in the US, UK, Germany and 25 other export markets'

The ayurveda product, Supiriviki tooth paste, ‘Sri Lanka’s home grown household staple’, achieved international acclaim at the International Innovation Awards 2018. Besides, it has penetrated some 25 export markets world wide and is much sought after.

Managing Director, Siddhalepa Group Asoka Hettigoda said at a recent press conference that nine ayurvedic ingredients combine to produce Supiriviki, the first non white tooth paste based on traditional herbs, aimed at ensuring total oral care.

Tracing the history of Siddhalepa, he said the brand goes back 200 years to the middle of the 19th century and its commencement in Galle by Don Carolis de Silva. He said the evolution of Siddhalepa was gradual. Indigenous methods were adopted in its manufacture and local ingredients were added to make-up a composite volume to treat and cure illnesses of varied intensity. The mantle of ayruvedic medicine manufacturer was passed on to Don Carolis' son Hendrik de Silva Hettigoda, a student of ayurveda and astrology, who developed the wide cross section of products that originated here in Sri Lanka.

His second son Ven. Aggamaha Panditha was a renowned Buddhist scholar who followed Buddhist teachings to become a renowned monk.

Asoka Hettigoda confirmed the prod uct Supiriviky was launched in 1988. Ingredients used were developed over centuries of research.

Established 1971 the Siddhalepa Group is one of the largest pioneering industrialists of ayuruveda products; producing a wide product range of medicinal oils, balms, teas, elixirs, cosmetics. They cater to the domestic and export markets. The Group also runs an ayurveda hospital, the Siddhalepa Resort and Spa, a city hotel, Anarva, Mount Lavinia, and several Spas in Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The Group exports to 25 countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, China and countries in the Pacific.

Siddhalepa products have also been awarded ISO standard certification further establishing the brand’s marketable acceptance in the international sphere.

Questioned by the press Asoka Hettigoda said they produce at least one new product each year to add to the already growing product range. He agreed considerable research and development goes into each product..

Minister Dr. Rajitha Seneratne was Chief Guest. He did not address the gathering.

Those present included members of the diplomatic community.
