Kadirgamar assassination suspect arrested in Germany

An LTTE member who was allegedly involved in the assassination of former Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, in 2005, was arrested in Germany, on Wednesday.

International media said, quoting federal prosecutors, that the suspect had been identified as Navanithan; his surname was not revealed in keeping with privacy laws. He was arrested in southwestern Germany.

The German authorities believe that he was a member of the LTTE’s secret police, responsible for political assassinations and other such crimes.

The suspect is also alleged to have been involved in the LTTE’s abortive attempt to kill EPDP leader Douglas Devananda.
