Rajitha: Gotabaya will help UNF candidate get minority votes

Fielding Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the SLPP candidate at the next presidential election will stand the UNF candidate in good stead in that the latter will get the minority votes, Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne says.

Addressing a press conference, at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo, to announce the International Healthcare 2019 exhibition, the Minister said: "Gotabaya Rajapaksa can pretend that he gained the confidence of minorities by producing videos and pictures of him dining with minority community members, but he will not get their votes. If he thinks that minorities have forgotten how they were treated when Gotabaya was the Secretary Defence he is mistaken. The UNF candidate has another

advantage; Gotabaya has to commence his campaign right from the beginning. The UNF has been engaged in a massive development campaign of which the results would be felt by people at the time of the election."

"The former President, too, believed that he could win solely with the votes from the Southern provinces of the country. But he was mistaken. The decisive vote will come from the North and the East. Gotabaya will not get them for sure. In addition, the new voters will reject communal politics; they want to see the country developed and modernized. They know that only the UNF can do that."
