Daily trial against Gotabaya fixed to begin on June 19

The Colombo High Court, trial-at-bar, yesterday, fixed the trial against Gotabaya Rajapaksa, former Secretary Defence, for June 19, 2019. The trial will be held daily. The Court allowed Rajapaksa to visit Singapore from May 24 to June 2, for medical treatment. Rajapaksa has been indicted of having abused Rs. 33.9 million to construct the D. A. Rajapakse Memorial at Madamulana, Tangalle.

Rajapaksa has replied to the court that it was done on an agreement with the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation. All the dues had been duly settled. The allegation against him was baseless. 

Vasantha Perera Senior State Counsel appeared for the Attorney-General.

M. M. Ali Sabry PC appeared for Rajapaksa.

The bench comprised High Court Judge Sampath Wijeratne, Samapth Abeykoon and Champa Janaki Rajaratne.
