Alleged illegal sterilization of women: Rathana Thera calls for presidential probe

Ratana thera added that he would not allow the Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne or his associates to interfere with the investigations. "There is an attempt to whitewash Dr Mohamed Shafi but I think that his guilt is now obvious. The only thing left to do is to prosecute him," the Thera said.

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) also called on the President to appoint a commission to probe allegations against Dr Mohamed Shafi.

"Not even staff of Kurunegala Hospital supports the investigation ordered by the Health Minister. The real problem is that even if Dr Mohamed Shafi is not guilty, no one will accept that decision given by the health Minister’s commission," Secretary of the GMOA, Naven de Sozya said addressing the media in Colombo yesterday.
