Congrats Hathurusinghe!

'Shakib, Liton star in the Tigers 'highest ever ODI run-chase' The Daily Star, Bangladesh's leading newspaper carried in its headline. Bangladesh registered a comfortable seven-wicket victory with 51 balls to spare, against West Indies in Taunton on Monday. Shakib remained unbeaten on a 99 ball 124, while Liton missed out a ton after an unbeaten 94 off 69 deliveries. Shakib also remained the highest run-getter at this World Cup with 384 runs at an incredible average of 128 from four innings. Now everyone is looking forward for Bangladesh's encounter with Australia on 20 June.

While everyone is showering praises on everyone else for Bangladesh's success against South Africa and West Indies, one man who came to mind was none other than our own Chandika Hathurusinghe, who initially laid a solid foundation for Bangladesh to become a formidable team in the future. Bangladesh, to be fair, valued Hathursinghe's efforts in team building more than Shakib's performances, and paid him an annual salary of US $ 340,000, while Shakib received only US $ 140,000 then. I am confident their cricket administration and players will be ever grateful to him for the commitment he showed during his period as the team's coach.

Unlike our administration, he had a free hand in Bangladesh and that is the secret behind the team's success. Congratulations Hathurusinghe, you deserve praise for all your initial hard work. Why don't we too give him a free hand in coaching our team?
