President Maithripala Sirisena will be invited to testify before the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) probing the Easter Sunday terror attacks, a member of the Committee said.

"We have decided to request the President to come before the PSC this week so that his evidence can be recorded," he said.

"We will be inviting the President to appear before the PSC, but in the event he is unable to attend, we will inform him that members of the Committee can visit the Presidential Secretariat to record his evidence", he said.

It was the discretion of the President whether to testify before the PSC or ask the Committee members to visit the Presidential Secretariat to record his evidence, he further said. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had already expressed his willingness to testify before the PSC, the member said.

The President’s evidence, as Sri Lanka’s Defence Minister, will be of immense value in continuing with the work of the PSC, which has been mandated to investigate the dastardly attacks on innocent civilians, he added.
