Yashoda tops O/L resultsMarch 22, 2011, 10:10 pm

Withana Hewage Maduri Yashoda of Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo obtained the best results at the GCE (O/L) examination 2010, while Rizan Atifm of Maliyadeva College Kurunegala and Tathsarani Amaya of Eheliyagoda Vidyalaya were placed second and third respectively. The results of the examination were released last week. Over 500,000 candidates sat the examination.
Examinations Chief Anura Edirisinghe said that Dileepa Madushan Tilakeratne of Ananda College Colombo and Kavindi Hansika of Southlands College Galle had secured equal marks to take the fourth place. Shan Lahiru Sandeepa, of S. Thomas College Bandarawela was placed fifth.
Edirisinghe said that 62 per cent of those who sat the examination had passed and they were the best results ever.It was a 10 per cent increase compared with the 2009 results.
Edirisinghe said that 195,112 students had qualified for the GCE (A/L).
He said that Thilini Kaushalya Abeysinghe of Anula Vidyalaya Nugegoda and Udari Jayamali de Silva of Southlands College Galle had been placed sixth.
Thushani Kaumadi Nimanthika and Piyumali Fernando of Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo and Hasini Chinthanee Weerasinghe of Sujatha Balika Vidyalaya Matara were placed seventh.
Samitha Ranga Udantha and Sithish Chandrasiri of Royal College Colombo and Nipuna Sudaraka of Rahula College Matara were placed eighth.
Seven students obtained equal marks to be placed ninth. They were: Gaya Kithmini and Sewwandi Pavithrani of Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo, Adithya Weerasiri of Richmond College Galle, Muhammad Arzard of Kekunagolla Muslim Central College, Shehan Isanka of Rahula College Matara, Sameera Maduwanthi Wijewardena of St. Thomas High School for Girls Matara and Mindula Nugagahapola of Sangamiththa Balika Vidyalaya Matale.
