14 Sri Lankans figure in the Vivo IPL 2020 Player Auction List

Angelo Mathews wants INR 20mn, Thissara Perera INR 10mn, rest INR 5mn each

NEW DELHI, December 13: The VIVO IPL 2020 Player Auction list is out with a total of 332 cricketers set to go under the hammer in Kolkata on December 19. While 997 players had initially registered, the final list has been pruned after the eight franchises submitted their shortlist of players.


The Indian Premier League (IPL) is owned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). With its 2019 brand value estimated at INR 475 billion ($6.9 billion) by Duff & Phelps, it is the world’s richest cricket tournament. Any cricketer picked by any of the eight franchises is destined to become a millionaire overnight.


The pruned list includes 14 Sri Lankan players. They are led by Angelo Mathews, who is among seven overseas players who have opted to be slotted in the highest reserve price of INR 20 million (LKR 50.6 million). Others in this list are: Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Chris Lynn, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Dale Steyn.


Sri Lankan Thissara Perera is hoping to go for INR 10 million (LKR 25.3 million). The remaining dozen Sri Lankan players have set their reserve price at INR 5 million (LKR 12.65 million).


They are: Kusal Perera, Isuru Udana, Oshada Fernando, Avishka Fernando, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dimuth Karunarathna, Dasun Shanaka, Dushmanta Chameera, Nuwan Pradeep, Jeevan Mendis, Angelo Perera, and Seekkuge Prasanna.


Robin Uthappa is the only Indian player in the Auction list with a base price of INR 15 million. Other Indian stars, Piyush Chawla, Yusuf Pathan and Jaydev Unadkat have set their base price at INR 10 million each.


A total of 186 Indian players, 143 overseas players and three players from Associate Nations will be up for grabs in the VIVO IPL 2020 Player Auction in Kolkata.
