Air Brothers win 3x3 cager championship


Four veteran basketball players who have contributed to the development of the game with their coaching skills won the third place in the Over 35 age group. Roshan Gunasekara, Asanga Perera, Edward Ceasar and Samson de Mel who are all in their late 40s formed the team.

Air Brothers won the Overall Championship of the Sunil Seneviratne Challenge Trophy 3x3 cager tournament beating "Sunil Sir ge Golayo" 21 points to 12 in the final held on Sunday at Kandana. Air Brothers consisted of three national players who won a bronze medal at the recently held South Asian Games.

Nimesh Fernando, Pawan Gamage and Chanuka Fernando are the three national players who competed at the South Asian Games and other player was Sasindu Dilshan. ‘Cross Over’ won the third place in the Under 35 age category.

Meanwhile, Breakers won the overall championship in the over 35 age group beating Moratuwa BC 16 points to 10. Old Bens finished third.

The tournament was organized by the De Mazenod College’s ‘89 Group’ with past Mazenodians basketball players. The tournament was held under two categories, namely Over 35 and Under 35. The Over 35 tournament was played for the Rev. Bro Philip of Jesus Memorial Trophy and the Under 35 tourney was played for Sunil Seneviratne Challenge Trophy.

Some 20 teams took part in the tournament.
