Former MP and Samagi Jana Balawegaya Moneragala District candidate Gamini Wijith Wijayamuni Zoysa yesterday found fault with his Matara District colleague Mangala Samaraweera for making statements against Buddhism and Christianity.

"Mangala should have been more careful. His statements against Buddhism are damaging to our party. It is not the first time he has made such statements. He has verbally abused members of the Maha Sangha. He once made false statements against Colombo Bishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith. He should refrain from bad mouthing religious dignitaries."

Zoysa said: "Those statements have been aired by TV and radio. It seems that we have to take action in this regard. Our party should take these statements into consideration and prevent the damage doing by Samaraweera. He should stop these actions immediately. We become helpless when people question of our party members denigrating the members of the Maha Sangha. How could we expect them to vote for us when our members go on public blaming the religious leaders venerated by our voters?"
