700 students to participate at ICASL Students’ National Conference



The 25th ICASL Students’ National Conference will see an impressive participation of nearly 700 students today, at the gala silver jubilee event which will be held at the Hotel Galadari, Colombo.


Some 700 students studying chartered accountancy from a diverse section of society hailing from various parts of the country will take part in the conference, which will also see a regional level student representation from neighbouring countries India, Pakistan and Nepal.


The one day long conference, organised by the Practicing Accountants’ Chartered Students’ Society (PACSS) - the students’ society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) will focus on ‘Economic Renaissance’.


Students representing the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan and the chartered accountants body of Nepal will take part in Wednesday’s conference.


Over the years, the conference has been a remarkable platform for the students of professional bodies in the South Asian Region to interact with each other and share not only their professional knowledge, but also develop interpersonal skills. The annual conference also provides an opportunity for students of the sub-continent to present their views on topics which are of interest in the current business world.


This year’s conference focuses on the post war scenario of Sri Lanka and how the country’s youth generation could contribute to the long-term development of our nation, in our strive to make Sri Lanka the ‘miracle of Asia.’


The keynote speaker at Wednesday’s conference will be Suren J. Amarasekara, CEO of Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd., who will articulate on ‘How leadership will promote economic renaissance.’


The conference which will cover an extensive range of topics will also see a presentation by Reyaz Mihular, Partner at KPMG Ford Rhodes Thornton & Co., who will speak on ‘Challenges ahead – SLAS to IFRS’, while Managing Director of Character Precepts Training Institute (Pvt) Ltd., Terry Unruh will make a detailed presentation on ‘HR strategies in an economic renaissance.’


Among the other high-profile speakers are Fouzul Hameed, Managing Director of Hameedia, who will elaborate on ‘Dress attire in the corporate world’, while Prema Cooray, Managing Director/CEO of Citrus Leisure PLC will speak on ‘Leisure sector as a driver for economic renaissance.’


The conference will also feature a presentation by Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal.
