Welgama brothers to spend Rs. 5 mn for Mirisawetiya Bodhiya

Transport Minister Kumara Welgama said that Sri Lanka Telecom Chairman and Upali Group Manging Director Nimal Welgama and himself would spend Rs. 5 million to white wash the Anuradhapura Mirisawetiya Bodhiya. The Chief Incumbent of the Mirisawetiya Ven. Ethalawatuna Wewa Genathilaka thero had requested them to undertake this meritorious task and they had acceded to the request.

Minister Welgama told The Island that when the country had turned a new lease of life under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa the Buddhist Order of the country would be safeguarded. Rehabilitation, restoration and refurbishment of moribund Buddhist temples, monasteries , hermitages and sacred places had been prioritized by the government and any donation to this noble task would be welcomed.

He pointed out that it was one of the principal aims of the government to inculcate religious values in the minds of people as the country was enjoying a peaceful atmosphere. The true worth of a human being was gauged by the input he or she would contribute to the welfare of the society.
