A seven-member delegation from Sakai City in Osaka Perfectore, Japan was in Sri Lanka for a few days and expressed keenness to link Colombo with Sakai City in a Sister City representation.

They were in Colombo on Tuesday (7) on behalf of the Mayor of Sakai Osami Takeyama and held extensive discussions with the Special Commissioner of the Colombo Municipal Council Omar Kamil.

The Japanese delegation from Sakai City comprised Hato Hitoshi, Kato Hiroki, Matsumoto, Kanaoka Shigeyo, Suzuki Mazashi, Uchida Osamu and Iwao Hidetaka.

Kamil, himself a former Mayor of Colombo and Ambassador in Iran, told The Island that once the link is built they (from the CMC) will visit Sakai to get exposure on the programmes Sakai City is conducting.

That would be a good opportunity for Colombo to link up with other cities, in the world, who are ahead of Colombo, Kamil said.

They will also have technical and cultural programme exchanges between Colombo and Sakai.

The delegation from Sakai also had discussions with the Professor in charge of Foreign Languages at the University of Kelaniya and two Sri Lankan undergraduates will visit Sakai for two to three weeks to learn the culture of the Japanese.

The delegation also gifted two ambulances to First Lady Mrs. Shiranithi Rajapaksa on Thursday (9) and is scheduled to leave Sri Lanka today (10).
