Sri Lanka Police Inspectors’ Association has lashed out at UPFA MP Nishantha Muthuhettigama over a recent threat to assault the Officer-in-Charge of the Akmeemana police station and chase him out unless police headquarters transferred him immediately.

The SLIA has urged Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena and IGP N. K. Illangakoon to take punitive action against the Galle District MP.

A spokesperson for the association said that failure on the part of the government to discipline the politician would encourage unruly elements. The MP had publicly abused police, thereby challenging the Police Department and law of the land. (SF)
