MR chides Pet. Ministry, CPC over ‘bad’ petrol

In the wake of the UNP moving the Bribery Commission against the Petroleum Ministry and the CPC for import and distribution of ‘bad’ petrol, President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday advised the CPC to not to do it again.

Addressing a gathering after the opening of new Ceypetco headquarters at No 609 at Dr Danister de Silva Mawatha, Dematagoda, President Rajapaksa told the ministry and CPC bosses not to sell petrol mixed with water. Sources said that embarrassed officials looked at each other amidst the presidential reprimand.

UNP sources told The Island that it wasn’t a case of water being mixed with petrol but a mega fraud involving the ministry and the CPC. Sources emphasized that the Opposition would continue to agitate for a thorough investigation and punitive action taken those responsible regardless of their status.

President Rajapaksa said that they should be careful as he and the government had to take the ultimate responsibility for their lapses. (SF)
