Govt. to allocate Rs.100 bn for health services

The government is planning to allocate over Rs. 100 billion to the public health sector as part of its efforts to strengthen health services. The Health Ministry spokesman described the current allocation as the highest ever received by the health sector from the State.

Quoting the Health Minister, the spokesman said that the proposed budgetary allocation would help revitalise the public health sector.

The Presidential Media Unit (PMU) said that the Health Ministry and Ministry of Indigenous Medicine had met President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Monday (29) for discussions on next year’s budgetary allocations. The government was focusing on allocating more funds to develop and strengthen health services in the country, the PMU said.

Discussions between the President and the Health Minister had been on the future programmes for systematic drug distribution to government hospitals, the PMU said. (DJ)
