Devanathan Memorial Lecture on Sept. 09

The Devanathan Memorial Lecture 2011 will be delivered by Dr. Samson Hettiarachchi on Sept. 09, 2011 at 3.45 p.m. at Adamanatane House, 341/22, Kotte Road, Rajagiriya

Internationally reputed Sri Lankan scientist Dr M. A. V. Devanathan. who graduated with a First Class Honours in Chemistry from the University of Ceylon in 1947. obtained his PhD from Imperial College (University of London) in 1951 for his contribution to the electrical double layer. He returned to the University of Ceylon in 1952 and continued with his Physical Chemistry Research which led to the refinement of his theory to an internationally accepted Devanathan Triple Layer Theory. He left the university in the early sixties and worked in several institutions including the University of Pennsylvania, Central Electrochemical Research Institute at Karaikudi in India, CISIR (now ITI) and the University of Southampton. His untimely death at the early age of 52 in 1978 took place while he was holding the position of Director of the Tea Research Institute in Talawakelle.
