The Homagama police are hopeful of making a breakthrough within the next few days to arrest those who committed the triple murder at Dolekade, Kottawa, where a former custodian of a "Devalaya", his wife and her brother were done to death with sharp objects in the early hours of Saturday.

The deceased were Anura Tilak Elwitigala (44) his wife Mahayage Sudarshini Ratnaweera (38) and her brother Dilantha Ratnaweera (28).

The killers had attacked the head and chest of the victims and there were over 15 stab injuries each on the chest of both men while the woman had been stabbed 10 times on her chest. The brother in law’s head also had been stabbed with a pointed object.

The police said that the killers had entered the house after breaking a back door of the house and there were blood stained finger prints believed to be of the killers on door curtains and walls of the house.

The police said that Elwitigala was in charge of the Rankadu Pattini Devalaya in Kaduwela for several years and a few months ago he had left that place and started a ‘devalaya’ in the premises of his main house at Mambulgoda, Pannipitiya. On Friday night after completing their work at the Devalaya at Mambulgoda they had returned to their home at Dolekade and after taking their dinner they had gone to sleep when the killers struck.
