Abducted children returned to mother

By Hemantha Randunu

Two children, aged three and one, who were abducted by their father from the mother’s custody, were handed back to their mother, by the father, at the Mirihana SPs office, after 10 days.

The police said while the mother was given custody of the two children on a Court order an organised gang had gone and abducted the children when they were at a relative’s house.

The mother of the children, Prabhani Dias, had filed action against her husband seeking a divorce and the Court had given the custody of Trevon Chaminda De Silva and Trevon Samith de Silva to her.

The Mirihana police got cracking and deployed two teams to trace the children.

The police heard that the children were with their father but had no knowledge of where they were.

The father later visited the SP’s office in Mirihana and told SSP Desabandu Tennekoon that the children were with him and he was ready to hand them back to their mother.

The police made arrangements for him to bring the children and informed their mother to come to the SP’s office.

The mother of the children was asked to wait in a separate room and once the father brought the children to the police, the SSP asked the older child where they were and he replied saying that they were with their grandmother. The mother who was in the adjoining room ran into the room where the children were and the older child seeing her, embraced her at once. The younger one, who had fallen asleep on his father’s shoulder woke up and was surprised to see his mother.

He also ran to his mother, embraced her and started crying.

The SSP advised the parents of the two children to think of the future of the children when they take decisions.

The children were sent for a medical examination.
