Sri Lanka men’s volleyball team for 16th Asiad


Sri Lanka men’s volleyball team which left to Iran to take part in the 16th Men’s Asian Volleyball C’ship, beginning today. Here they pose for photographs with Dilan Perera, MP, and President, Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation.

The national men’s volleyball team left the country last Monday, Sept. 19, to take part in the 16th Asian Volleyball Championship which will get underway today in Teheran, Iran.

A total number of 16 teams, divided into four groups, will take part in this tournament. Sri Lanka will play the curtain-raiser against China today and it will be followed by their second match, scheduled for tomorrow, against Uzbekistan.

Japan won last year’s championship while Iran and Korea secured second and third places respectively.

Tournament Draw:

Group-A: India, Afghanistan, Iran and Taipei

Group-B: Indonesia, China, Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka

Group-C: Japan, Pakistan, Thailand and Kazakhstan

Group-D: Australia, Qatar, Korea and Tajikistan
