The Land Reforms Commission (LRC) has taken steps to hand over 100 deeds to low income families as a mark of respect for the late Minister of Agriculture and Lands Hector Kobbekaduwa. The deeds would be presented at the LRC today, Executive Director of the LRC, Hariguptha Rohanadeera said.

"Low income families countrywide who had applied for deeds will receive them today," he said.

The programme has been launched under the title ‘Ranbima Deed Presentation’ and LRC so far has presented over 50,000 such deeds since the project was taken over by the President in 2008.

The LRC has established district offices countrywide except in the Jaffna District and the needy could apply for deeds through the district land officials, Rohanadeera said.

Rohanadeera said that the LRC had initiated a project to provide land for tourism and agriculture related projects.

"For selected applicants land will be issued under a 30-year lease programme and so far most lands have been issued to the residents of Kandy and Kalutara districts," he said.
