Minister was missing

Post intern doctors, who were to be given their appointment letters at a ceremony held at the Maharagama Youth Centre, had to distribute their appointment letters amongst themselves as the Health Minister and his officials failed to turn up.

Informed Medical sources said on Thursday that over 700 post intern doctors from all parts of the country had presented themselves at the Maharagama Youth Centre at 9 a.m. to receive their appointment letters from Minister Maithripala Sirisena on Tuesday (08).

However, the Minister and his officials did not turn up at the event as they were attending the ceremony held to give nurses their appointment letters. Sources said the doctors had been waiting for over five hours at the youth centre before distributing the letters amongst themselves.

However, the Government Medical Officers’ Association when contacted refused to comment on the matter. (DJ)
