FR violation petition against girls’ home head, others

The Foundation for Law and Justice of Colombo 9, has filed a Fundamental Rights Violation application in the Supreme Court, against the former principal of the Rammuthugala Girls’ Certified School, Kadawatha and alleged that on or about October 19 2011, nine girls detained at the Rammuthugala Girls Certified School, had escaped due to cruelty, abuse and torture inflicted on them by the principal and a few other connected respondents. The statements made by the girls to the Minuwangoda police station and the officers of the National Child Protection Authority, clearly established that the children had been subjected to cruelty at the certified school, by the aforesaid respondents, the petition said.


The petitioner had requested the Supreme Court to direct the Chairperson of the National Child Protection Authority to exercise the authority of the NCPA, and introduce stringent regulations and guidelines to minimize child abuse inside State and voluntary homes.


The petition also requested the Court to order the IGP to avoid unwarranted arrest and unwarranted detention of children.
