Parliament would investigate whether UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had violated Matara District UNP MP Buddhika Pathirana’s parliamentary privileges by denying him an opportunity to attend Thursday’s parliamentary group meeting, the House was told yesterday.

This assurance was given by Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody.

He was responding to UPFA National List MP A. H. M. Azwer.

MP Azwer: "MP Buddhika Pathirana participated in his parliamentary group meeting on Thursday. But later he had been sent out. This occurred within the Parliamentary complex. This has violated his MP privileges. This is reported in today’s newspapers."

MP Buddhika Pathirana: "I will take care of my privileges. I do not expect help and backing from the government side to protect my privileges. We are men from the village and have the strength to look after our affairs and I can stand on my own."(SI)
