No pressure on me to withdraw – Michael de Zoysa

Michael de Zoysa is contesting from the Thilanga Sumathipala camp for the post of SLC secretary, against Nishantha Ranatunga. ‘Sunday Island’ asked him whether he would withdraw from Tuesday’s SLC elections due to pressure from various parties.

Excerpts of his answer follows:

No pressure on me whatsoever from anyone. However the clubs, the District and Provincial Associations are under pressure to withdraw. I’ve no idea who is exerting such pressure.

We’re still looking for the feedbacks of those clubs. We’re soliciting their votes at the forthcoming elections. If everybody in my team is withdrawing from the elections before Tuesday (Jan. 3), then I too will.

My contest with Nishantha Ranatunga for the post of secretary will go either way. He’s well known but I think I’m a better administrator.

Our camp (led by Thilanga Sumathipala) has been able to compete successfully in any cricket board election at any time, even if such an election is called after five, six years, since we love the game and our intention to see that the SLC flourish. Compliments to our team for beating South Africa amidst some negative remarks against them. But, whoever is elected on Tuesday, the cricket board administration has to improve drastically in future if we are to see it comes out of the present mess, especially its current financial problem.
