The 63rd Mr. Sri Lanka National Bodybuilding Championship organised by Sri Lanka Body Building and Fitness Federation (SLBBFF), will be held at Ananda College, Colombo, today.
A total number of 167 contesters from 127 SLBBFF registered clubs island wide, have qualified for the major event this year.
The qualifying rounds will commence at 8.00 a.m. and the final round is scheduled to begin at 4.00 p.m. The bodybuilders, who have gained qualification to take part in this major event, will be contesting in Junior Championship (below 21 years), Senior Championship (above 21) and Masters Championship (above 45 years).
Senior Championship includes 55kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg, 85kg, 90kg and over-90 categories, from which the winner of each category will be qualified for the Mr. Sri Lanka title 2011. The winner of the Junior category will also be eligible to contest in the major event as well.
When contacted, the secretary of SLBBFF, Kapila Kumara , told ‘The Island’ yesterday that he had already taken steps and the approval of the relevant authorities and also on the process of making all arrangements to host the Mr. Asia Contest in Sri Lanka in 2014. He said that he would be happy as an islander if he succeeds in bringing this mega event to Sri Lanka.
Sports Minister Mahaindananda Aluthgamage will be the chief guest. The event will be a colourful one as the invitees will be entertained with Latin American and traditional dances during breaks.
