President Rajapaksa realizing the difficulties experienced by doctors in admitting their children to proper schools when they went on transfers, had instructed Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena to see to the problem of school admissions of doctors’ children. Despite President Rajapaksa’s instruction, there had been a delay in implementing the request. "It is only now that the Education Ministry has commenced to act on the instructions given by the President to admit the children to grade 1 and other classes," Dr. Epitakaduwa told The Island.

When the GMOA met President Rajapaksa, the association convinced the President the necessity of implementing an Annual Transfer Scheme combined with schooling of their children.
