DSG gives undertaking not to conduct postal vote

The Deputy Solicitor General, Janak de Silva, yesterday gave an undertaking to the Court of Appeal, that the Commissioner of Election, will not conduct postal voting on March 15, 16, 2012 in respect of the Pradeshiya Sabhas of Maritime Pattu and Puthukudurrippu.


Two registered voters of these area, J. Ajantha and another who are displaced person had complained that the elections to these two Pradeshiya Sabhas should not be conducted on March 24, 2012, as scheduled since demining in these areas are yet to be completed and that the villagers are still displaced.


Their application is to be supported in Court, on March 15, 2012, after notifying the respondents Election Commissioner and the respective Returning Officer.


Yesterday, when the petition was called before the Court, M. A. Sumanthiran appeared for the petitioners.
