The CID yesterday morning took into custody Godakawela Pradeshiya Sabha member Dharmasiri Lokugamhewa, the elder brother of the first suspect in the killing of a mother and her teenage daughter in Kahawatte for questioning.

Dharmasiri was the co-ordinating secretary of Public Administration Minister John Seneviratne till recently.

The police said that the murder was planned in Dharmasiri’s house occupied by his younger brother Danasiri alias "Raju". A senior officer said that he had been questioned on a number of earlier occasions and released.

Dharmasiri had told the sleuths that he and his family had been away in Matara at his wife’s residence when the murders were committed. A three wheel driver was arrested along with Raju and his wife in connection with the double killings, the police said.

Dharmasiri was being detained at the CID for questioning after being picked up from Tangalle on Tuesday night, investigators said.
