Sayura Radio first anniversaryMarch 28, 2012, 10:07 pm
‘Sayura Radio’, the first fisheries radio service in the world, celebrated its first anniversary on Monday (26).
It plays an important role in the fishing industry by providing important guidelines, information, knowledge and warnings of weather changes. It also helps to connect the fishermen at deep sea with their relations," Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.
‘Sayura Radio’ also broadcasts educational programmes for children and entertainment programmes. Programmes are aired from midnight to 4.00 a.m. via frequencies, 92.2 FM, 87.6 FM, 91.2 FM, 95.0 FM, 102.6 FM, and 94.4 FM.
The Sayura broadcasting service was launched on a concept by Minister Rajitha Senaratne with the collaboration of Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC).
President Mahinda Rajapaksa launched the ‘Sayura Radio’ at the Peliyagoda Fish Market in 2011 to provide valuable information such as news bulletins and information about new technologies for the fishermen. (MM)
