Sri Lanka Army shooter Mangala Samarakoon has received a quota place to represent Sri Lanka at the London Olympics, according to Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando, president, National Shooting Federation, of Sri Lanka.

Fernando told ‘The Island’ on Sunday that the World Sports Shooting Federation had informed them about Samarakoon’s selection on Saturday and he was hoping that Beijing Olympics participant E. M. Senanayake too would get a quota place.

Samarakoon achieved the minimum qualifying standard by collecting 592 points at a recent international event.

Samarakoon will compete in the men’s 50 metres rifle prone event.

"The world body will again inform us if there are any vacant quota places in the second round. We might get a quota place for Senanayake, if there are any," said Fernando.
