LTTE, Ranil did most damage to UNP - Maithri

The LTTE and Ranil Wickremesinghe had done the biggest damage to the United National Party and now he would be one of the stakeholders at the Tamil National Alliance sponsored rally in the Jaffna Peninsula, UNP Southern Provincial Councillor Maithri Gunaratne said.

Addressing a media briefing in Colombo, yesterday, he said the TNA was the political wing of the LTTE and Wickremesinghe, despite representing a powerful party, was now going as one of the alliance forces of the TNA.

The LTTE was responsible for assassinating the cream of the UNP leaders, including President Ranasinghe Premadasa, Gamini Dissanayake, Lalith Athulathmudali and others and now Wickreremsinghe has become a stakeholder in its political wing.

He also said that Wickremesinghe, through his broker, John Amaratunga, had requested from Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to provide a vessel to view whales in the Gulf of Mannar.

"This is a clear indication that Wickremesinghe is not going for the sake of the party or the working class, but for his amusement. His broker had sought for the approval of three of Wickremasinghe‘s sidekicks," he added.

He stressed that more than 25,000 supporters would participate in the commemoration ceremony of the late Ranasinghe Premadasa.

"You would see what’s going to happen to Wickremasinghe after this May Day," he added.

He said what they wanted was a strong opposition that could dictate terms to the ruling party, to maintain the democratic process of the country.
