Isipathana College notched up the first century of the Singer Inter-School under-20 division I-Group A league and thus recorded a massive 111-10 victory over D.S Senanayake College at Longden place yesterday.
From the outset, D.S was no match to the wounded Isipathana, who took the frustration out of last week’s narrow defeat to Trinity on their hapless opponents. The Havelock town lads led 45-7 at half time and collected their colossal score through 17 tries and 13 conversions. The try scorers were Hirantha Perera (4), Uditha Premathilake (3), Kavindu Costa (3), Shenal Dias (2), Sandeepa Himasha (2), Arun Kumar, Sithum Chathusanka and Kushan Silva.
Perera increased his already hefty tally for the season by 34 points combined with 12 conversions and Kavindu Costa added the remaining two points. For D.S, Lahiru Rajaguru’s effort was the only saving grace and Praneeth Lakmal put over the conversion and a solitary penalty.
With Trinity’s sublime effort in Kandy, Isipathana won’t have an outlet to climb the table and will remain fourth, but the confidence gained will make them hard to tackle in the final phase of the season. With crucial matches coming up they’ll treasure the practise they acquired from this dismantling of the minnows and getting back to winning ways at the right time. (CP)
