Police strengthen security in NCP for Poson

Four thousand additional policemen would be deployed in Anuradhapura, Mihintale and Tantirimale areas in view of the Poson festival on June 04, DIG North Central Province, Kithsiri Dayananda said yesterday.
In addition to these 4000-man-strong supplementary force, another 400 policemen in civvies and intelligence unit members would also be detailed in public areas during the Poson season, the DIG said.
He said that action had been taken to summon the policemen from adjacent divisions for special duty.
Special traffic arrangements were in place to facilitate the influx of devotees coming to the sacred areas in the province during the season.
Bathing facilities for the pilgrims had been arranged at Anuradhapura Basawakkulama Vewa, Bulankulama Vewa, Nachchaduwa Vewa, Mihintale Vewa, Mahakanadarawa Vewa, and three ponds in Anurahdpura, the DIG said, adding that life savers of the police, navy and Life Saving Association of Sri Lanka had been detailed for duty at selected bathing spots.
