Police still trying to ascertain

Police investigators are still trying to ascertain whether Mohamed Nisthar (37), the Maldivian national who died after falling from the 18th floor of a private condominium at Union Place last week, had accidentally fallen or was pushed to his death by one of his friends.


Police produced the two local sex workers who were with the foreigner at the time of death before courts and they were remanded, SP Ajith Rohana said yesterday.


He said that investigators had recorded the statements of the other Maldivians who were with the victim at the time and taken into custody the passport and travel documents of five of them.


Two others Maldivians who later came into the victim’s apartment had been detained.

Madagascar had also been taken into police custody until investigations are concluded.


Following the autopsy by the JMO at the Colombo National Hospital, the body of the deceased were taken for burial to the Jawatte Muslim burial grounds by his family and relatives.
