PS woman member who claimed she was abducted last month now arrested in a cheating case

A female member of Bulathsinhala Pradeshiya Sabha, Lakmini Anupama Panditharatne, who was allegedly abducted last month at Warakagoda, Thebuwana and later released at Ratnapura, was arrested on Monday by a special police team from Kalutara in a case of aiding and abetting to cheat Rs.400,000 from a woman at Gowinna. She was produced before Matugama Magistrate and remanded till June 25.
According to police the 29-year-old UPFA Pradeshiya Sabha member had introduced to the victim woman of this scam, one Ranjith Koralage, who had posed off as a coordinating officer of the President and had taken from the victim the above sum to provide employment in South Korea.
Koralage who was arrested by the same police team too has been remanded till June 25.
Lakmini, in a statement to the police claimed that an armed gang had abducted her on Sunday May 20 in a car as she was returning home from a temple at about 7.00 p.m. She was released on May 29.
