Julampitiye Amare’s grandson arrested

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Saturday arrested the grandson of Geegana Gamage Amarasiri alias Julampitiye Amare, the Chief suspect in the attack on the JVP pocket meeting at Hadiwatte, Katuwana on June 15.


Second suspect K. U. Danushka Chaturanga was produced before Walasmulla Magistrate, Saliya Channa Abeyratne and remanded till an identification parade on July 07.Julampitiye Amare, who has been accused by the JVP of being behind the attack which killed two of its supporters at the meeting and critically injured another, surrendered to Tangalle High Court on June 19 on a previous warrant.
