A truck and a tractor loaded with sacks of rice were destroyed early yesterday morning in a fire when the vehicles were parked at a house in the Tissamaharama police area, police said.
Acting Police spokesman, SP Sajeewa Medawatte said that the truck and the tractor had caught fire between 1:00 am and 2:00 am and the fire had also destroyed 150 sacks of rice.
He said that investigations were being carried out to ascertain whether it was an arson attack due to envy and added that the Government Analyst too is probing the fire.
A Tissamaharama police source said that the two vehicles that caught fire were parked closed to each other and the one of the vehicle was partly burnt but the other was completely destroyed.
The owner of the house is a businessman and he had told the police that he had no political rivals in the area but he suspected this was done by some one out of envy, said the police source said.
